A Woman Doing a Basic Skincare Routine

How To Start a Basic Skincare Routine

Thinking on where to start to build a skincare routine that works yet is simple? Effective skincare has to do with using the right skincare products for your skin and being compliant with your skincare regimen. Starting off simple with key ingredients can be the easiest way to stick to your regimen before compounding your routine with too many products. Here is a simple list of a basic routine to get you started today!

Daily
Step 1: Start with a cleanser
A cleanser’s job is to get rid of all debris, pollutants, and acne-causing oil and bacteria that build up on your skin. It helps to clean your pores and prepare your skin for your routine. Use it morning and night to keep your skin fresh and clean.
Step 2: Vit C
A staple in every great skin-care regimen is Vitamin C, an antioxidant that helps protect skin cells from damaging free radicals due to UV exposure, which can lead to premature skin aging and hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C in your anti-aging regimen is a non-negotiable and those with flawless skin never skip it! The best type of Vitamin C to add in your regimen is a serum, they tend to be the most potent form.Step 3: Apply Moisturizer
Skin will become more plump and youthful if it is properly hydrated. Moisturizing in the morning and night is an important step in any skincare regime. A lighter moisturizer is great for the day time and if your skin is on the dry side, a heavier moisturizer can be applied at night time. Skin repairs itself while we sleep, so let it happen as naturally as possible. If you’re more oily keep your moisturizer light to prevent breakouts.

Step 4: Eye Cream
Eye cream is imperative for the delicate skin around the eyes to combat aging. Applying eye cream morning and night can help to reduce puffiness, dark circles, wrinkles and help to keep the skin as tight as possible in the eye area.

Step 5: Never Skip Sunscreen
The sun is the number one cause of advanced skin aging. Every morning sunscreen should be applied. The beauty is many anti-aging moisturizers or makeup include SPF nowadays, making it a simple step to keep our skin protected from the UV rays. No point in spending all the money on skincare and not protecting your investment. Your skin will thank you!

Twice a Week
Step 6: The Gold Standard is Retinol
Retinol is the gold standard of any anti-aging regimen for youthful looking skin and to stimulate collagen production. You should use retinol at least twice a week, up to every other night if your skin can tolerate it. It decreases fine lines and wrinkles, boosts collagen production, decrease hyper-pigmentation, improves texture and tone and helps give the skin a youthful glow.

Step 7: Exfoliate
Exfoliating twice a week can lead to smoother and brighter skin. If done too frequently it can cause more harm than good. Make sure to find a product matched for your skin type and apply moisturizer immediately after.
