Tips For Oily Skin
Oily skin occurs when the sebaceous glands in the skin overproduce sebum. Sebum is the waxy, oily substance that hydrates and protects the skin. It is essential for keeping the skin healthy, however, an excessive amount of sebum can lead to acne and clogged pores.
Managing oily skin requires a consistent skincare routine. Here are some tips to keep pimples and shine at bay without using harsh prescription products.
–Cleanse
Cleansing is a crucial step for managing oily skin. Use a cleanser that can cut through the oiliness and really clean dirt, oil and build-up off of your skin. Try to avoid anything too harsh that may strip your skin. Cleanse AM & PM. We recommend Revision Skincare Brightening Wash.
-Exfoliate
Chemical exfoliants like salicylic acid are often recommended as exfoliation treatments for oily and acne prone skin because they can penetrate the pore to clean out the oil and debris that creates the breeding ground for acne. Try to exfoliate 2-3 times per week after cleansing. We recommend ZO Exfoliating polish.
-Use a Toner
Toner helps to balance pH levels of the skin and gets rid of residual oil after cleansing. Use a toner after cleansing. We recommend ZO Complexion Renewal Pads.
-Moisturize
That’s right, we said moisturize! The most common misconception is that moisturizer will make your skin more oily. The right moisturizer is key. Overly thick and heavy creams can exacerbate oiliness and create more clogged pores and pimples. Be sure to choose a product lightweight yet hydrating. Moisturize after using toner. We recommend Revision DEJ Face Cream.
