Popular Skincare for Beginners

Skincare is crucial for creating healthy, radiant skin but sometimes it can be overwhelming for beginners who may not know where to start. Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated, if you plug in the necessary products to achieve optimal results. Let’s discuss a few important skincare products that should be included in a daily skincare routine.

Cleanser

This is the first step of a skincare routine that is crucial to removing all dirt, oil, sweat, dead skin cells, and pollutants which collect on our skin throughout the day. For beginners, a gentle, fragrance-free, hydrating cleanser can be a great start if you are uncertain of your skin type.

Cleansers that have minimal ingredients, with ceramides and glycerin to restore and maintain the skin barrier, are perfect if you are questioning what is best for your skin. Cleansing daily in the morning and evening is recommended.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is necessary for everyone and is proven to help slow aging skin, prevent sun damage, and improve the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots, and acne. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that fights free radicals or toxins that come in contact with your skin from external environmental stressors such as air pollution.

Applying Vitamin C helps fight these free radicals and can improve the overall appearance and texture of the skin. This product should be used every morning after cleansing, to help protect the skin throughout the day.

Retinol or Retinoids

Retinol/Retinoids are the gold standard of anti-aging products that help combat fine lines and wrinkles, acne and texture of the skin. Retinol is a form of Vitamin A that increases skin cell production. It can unclog pores, exfoliate the skin and increase collagen production giving the skin a radiant, plump appearance. Retinols are recommended to use 3-4 times a week at night, due to their powerful ingredients. A dime sized amount is perfect for the face, neck, and chest.

Moisturizer

Moisturizers can improve skin hydration and trap moisture, resulting in a healthy skin barrier. They can also soothe sensitive skin, improve tone and texture, all while helping the skin to look firmer and healthier. If you use a moisturizer after the use of a serum, it can help lock in the serum’s nutrients.

Moisturizers are essential for all skin types and address multiple concerns depending on the product ingredients. In the morning, moisturizer is applied after serums and toners, before your sunscreen. At night is the last step of the routine.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is crucial for everyone everyday to protect from UVA and UVB rays, which are the leading cause of skin cancer. SPF also helps prevent signs of aging such as sun spots, discoloration, wrinkles and fine lines.

Using a physical sunscreen, with the ingredient zinc oxide, protects your skin by reflecting the sun’s rays before they penetrate the skin. A broad spectrum sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher, is recommended for protecting your skin. Be sure to apply SPF after your moisturizer every morning and reapply every 2-3 hours throughout the day.
