Fall Skincare Guide: 10 Tips and Tricks for Fall Skin

As the leaves start to change color and the air becomes crisper, the time to adjust your skin care regimen has now arrived too. In this fall skincare guide, we will give you all the tips and tricks to keeping your skin healthy and hydrated during these cooler, drier months. With the season change coming, this is an opportunity to refresh and reset your routine. Follow these 10 tips and tricks to nourish your skin this fall.

1. Hydration

Hydration is key all winter long due to the cold temperatures causing skin dryness. Water is necessary for transporting nutrients, removing waste from the body, supporting the immune system, hydrating our tissues and organs as well as maintaining a proper body temperature. This is essential in the cooler months to reduce the risk of illnesses. You can stay hydrated internally by drinking plenty of water and externally by getting a medical-grade emollient-rich moisturizer.

2. Trio Luxe Moisturizer by SkinBetter Science

Trio Luxe is rich with a velvety texture that provides a triple-action approach to support the skin barrier and improve hydration which is ideal for dry and dull skin. This moisturizer is great for transitioning from summer to fall/winter time. In the cooler months, our skin gets drier, therefore we need something thicker with intense hydration.

3. Chemical Peels

Chemical peel season has officially arrived. In the fall/winter season, it is ideal to peel since we stay inside more, allowing our skin to peel properly without the harsh sun. There are many benefits of chemical peels including reducing acne, scarring, improving skin texture, minimizing pore size, reducing hyperpigmentation, and improving skin elasticity. Peels are essential for removing damaged skin cells and increasing cellular turnover, revealing youthful-looking skin.

4. Sunscreen

Sun damage is a year-round concern. Important reasons to wear sunscreen in the cooler months are to protect your skin from sun damage, prevent wrinkles caused by prolonged sun exposure, and ultimately cut down on your chances of developing skin cancer. Damaging UV rays are the predominant cause of skin cancer and premature aging. Always wear sunscreen, even if the sun isn’t out and the weather is cooler.

5. Phyto-A Brightening Serum by SkinCeuticals

After the summer sun creates skin damage, we transition to fall and winter, beginning the corrective season. Phyto-A Brightening Serum is a lightweight moisturizing serum that helps soothe and correct an imbalance of the skin to improve brightness, texture and clarity. This daily corrective treatment visibly reduces excess oil and redness, while smoothing skin and minimizing the appearance of pores, for enhanced clarity and brightness.

6. Microneedling with Exosomes and Growth Factors

Microneedling is phenomenal to do any time of the year, but especially in the cooler months, when you are able to stay out of the sun and allow your skin to heal properly. Combining exosomes or growth factors with microneedling enhances the results and reduces downtime by 30-50%. Exosomes are tiny sac-like structures that are released from cells and carry proteins, DNA, and RNA into other cells. Microneedling with exosomes helps with cell-to-cell communication and rejuvenates the skin, reduces signs of aging, and promotes production of new collagen and elastin. The benefits include a reduction of fine lines/wrinkles, reduction in acne scars and pores, a decrease in general signs of aging, improved tone/texture, and a faster recovery time post-procedure.

Growth Factors are chemical messengers that regulate cell division, and promote cell growth and development. Applying Growth Factor serum during microneedling enhances and restores your skin. This is because Growth Factors are full of platelets, which help tissue heal and create new cells. The benefits include smoother skin, reduced fine lines/wrinkles, improved tone/texture, and decreases downtime by 30-50%.

7. A.G.E Interrupter Advanced by SkinCeuticals

This moisturizer is an advanced anti-wrinkle corrective cream that helps reverse visible signs of aging. The key benefits are smoothing fine lines and deep wrinkles, correcting and defending against aging, restoring skin firmness and elasticity, and hydrating the skin.

8. Exfoliation

Exfoliation is important especially in the cooler months because as skin cells build up on dry skin, they can form a barrier that makes it even more difficult to moisturize and for products to penetrate into the skin. Regularly using an exfoliating scrub or mask on your face, followed by a moisturizer can help the skin look and feel smoother.

9. Simply Clean Gel Cleanser by SkinCeuticals

This cleanser is great for all skin types and is formulated to remove excess oil, make-up, and other impurities. Simply Clean also gently exfoliates dead skin cells to reveal softer, smoother skin. Having a face wash that addresses excess oil and prevents clogged pores without stripping the skin of its natural moisture is essential for maintaining a healthy skin barrier.

10. Avoid Long Hot Showers

As cooler temperatures come around, our skin becomes drier, causing it to become red, cracked, and itchy. Certain skin conditions such as eczema, and psoriasis can intensify in the fall and winter weather. Be cautious and avoid long periods of time in hot showers or baths, as this can contribute to dry skin and increase redness and inflammation. Showering in lukewarm water and applying a moisturizer immediately after, help seal moisture into the skin and increase hydration.

Understanding the unique challenges that the cooler season brings, such as dryness, hyper-sensitivity, and repairing sun damage, allows us to train our skin to adapt and thrive. Remember, a balanced approach that focuses on hydration, protection, and gentle care will help maintain a radiant and healthy complexion. Happy fall, and cheers to hydrated and glowing skin all season long!
