Transitioning Your Skincare Routine For Fall
Transitioning your skincare routine for the fall is important due to cooler temperatures and lower humidity levels that can affect your skin’s needs. Read on to discover helpful tips on how to adjust your skincare routine for the fall season.
First, evaluate your current skincare routine, take a look at your products and the efficiency of each one. Then, evaluate any specific concerns that may be present like sensitivity, dryness, or uneven skin tone, determining if the regimen is truly addressing those concerns.
The biggest recommendation for most people is to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! As the weather becomes colder, the air is drier, which can lead to skin dehydration. Incorporating hydrating products into a skincare routine, such as a moisturizer with a richer texture, can protect your skin during the cold winter months.
Be sure to use medical grade skincare products with active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides, which help to lock in moisture and protect the skin’s barrier. This will be key in fall to help the quality of your skin health.
Another tip is try switching to a milder cleanser. If using a gel, foaming, or exfoliating cleanser during the summer months consider switching to a gentler, cream based cleanser for the fall. This helps prevent stripping the skin of its natural oils, which can lead to dryness or irritation.
Always exfoliate regularly! Exfoliation is key to removing dead skin cells and promoting a smoother complexion. However, be mindful not to overdo it, as the cooler weather can make skin more sensitive. Consider switching to a gentler exfoliant such as a chemical exfoliant with AHA’s and BHA’s, that help improve skin texture without being so harsh like certain physical exfoliants.
Don’t forget to protect your skin! Although the sun may not feel as intense as during the summer, it’s still important to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Apply a broad spectrum SPF with at least SPF 30 daily, even on cloudy days. Look for a sunscreen that offers both UVA and UVB protection and is suitable for your skin type. This is imperative to all skincare regimens and overall skin health, so don’t forget your SPF in these cooler times.
Overall, fall weather can bring on many skincare concerns like dryness, dullness, and sensitivity. Consider incorporating products like rich moisturizers, face oils, antioxidant serums, and vitamin C to help combat these issues. These can help nourish and brighten the skin, while also providing protection from environmental stressors.
